Symptoms of Acne
Oil, over-secreted by the sebaceous glands, plugs the pores and results in dead skin cells called corneocytes that blocks the hair follicles. Due to the bacteria and the yeast cells, the skin erupts and shows lesions on the face, the chest, the shoulders, the back, and the upper arms. Lesions can appear in the form of papules, pustules, comedones, nodules and some inflammatory cystic acne which is considered to be one of the more severe forms of acne. Epidermoid or sebaceous cysts are not inflamed, however inflamed, reddish bumps filled with pus can result in some scarring and skin infections.
Acne scars can either be physical or pigmented. Physical or "icepick" scars make an indentation on the surface of the skin and look like icepicks. Pigmented scars arise due cystic or nodular acne and look like "bumps" under the surface of the skin. These bumps often result in an inflamed red spot which remains on the skin a long periods of time. When you try and pop or prick the spot, then you get pigmentation scars which are more severe.
Apart from scarring, acne sufferers show psychological symptoms like a lack of self-esteem and in severe cases, depression and suicide.

Acyclovir Acyclovir is a medication that is used to treat herpes infections of the skin, lips and genitals, chicken pox and shingles. It comes in the form of ointments, tablets, capsules or liquids. It relieves pain and itchiness and promotes healing; however, it does not cure the condition. Possible (but not common) side effects include headaches, upset stomach, vomiting and diarrhea. Severe side effects, such as severe rash or itching, blood in the urine, stomach pain or fever are even less common, but require prompt medical attention. |
