Obesity
Symptoms of Obesity Obesity and its symptoms is traditionally measured using BMI or the Body Mass Index, the circumference of the waist, and calculating other risk factors mentioned above. The BMI system was developed by Adolphe Quetelet, a Belgian anthropometrist. You can calculate your BMI by dividing your weight by the square of your height. BMI = lbs. * 703 / inches2 You are underweight if your BMI is below 18.5, if it is up to 25 your weight is normal, and you are overweight if your BMI is up to 30. However, if your BMI is between 30 and 39.9 you are categorised as obese and a BMI of 40+ signals severe obesity. Physicians will use BMI in conjunction with other factors like your race and ethnicity, your lean mass or muscularity, your age, sex, etc. The circumference of your waist also indicates central obesity levels of >102 cm in males and >88 cm in females as does a waist-hip ratio of >0.9 for males and >0.85 for females.
