ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, immune thrombocytopenic purpura)
I've been diagnosed The very first thing to do if you weree diagnosed with ITP is to find out (if you haven't done so already) what your platelet count is. If your platelet count is around 80,000 or more, there is a good chance that no treatment would be necessary and a doctor will just recommend to avoid stress and contact sports, and monitor your platelet levels frequently. Remember, the most dangerous consequence of ITP is a cranial hemorrhage or an internal bleeding and these rarely occur at levels higher than 80,000 cu/ml. A platelet count lower than 30,000 cu/ml can be potentially life-threatening due to a heightened risk of spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage, gastro-intestinal bleeding or bleeding caused by trauma. Avoid manual labor and contact sports. Your doctor may opt to temporarily boost your platelet count before commencing the usual treatment.
