Future appendectomies may leave a nasty taste in your mouth
The "New Scientist" reports that the advances in the field of endoscopic surgery had led to a possibility that future appendectomies will be performed under local anesthesia and the recovery time will be greatly reduced.
The technique known as natural orifice translumenal endosurgery, or NOTES, involves pushing a small camera and a bunch of surgical tools through a patient's mouth into the stomach. A surgeon then manipulates those instruments through a small incision in a patient's stomach.
